COOL PROJECTS AT LUNA INNOVATIONS

Discovering and applying new technologies...it's challenging and exciting work!

  • Partnered with Intuitive Surgical, the global technology leader in robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery, to integrate Luna’s fiber optic shape sensing and position tracking system into their medical robotic products with will help surgeons navigate instruments through the body during medical procedures.

  • Developing a nanomedicine for the next generation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents that could improve the quality and safety of this medical procedure. The class of new molecules Luna is developing could provide a platform upon to build a portfolio of nanomedicines aimed at disease targeting and diagnostic imaging. The National Cancer Institute has selected Luna's MRI contrast agent candidate for preclinical characterization.

  • Working with the Office of Naval Research applying Luna’s exclusive shape sensing technology to underwater surveillance sensor arrays. This technology enhancement will provide the ability to detect and assess enemy threats in the ocean with greater accuracy.

  • Recently discovered a nanomedicine prototype affects hair growth which could lead to a new pathway to understanding the process of hair follicle regeneration. This discovery could aid in the development of a treatment for hair loss caused by heredity and other medical conditions.

  • Luna is working with the Missile Defense Agency developing a low-cost common, sensor electronics for use in next-generation exoatmospheric interceptor kill vehicles for ballistic missile defense. Kill vehicles are designed to intercept incoming ballistic missile warheads outside the earth's atmosphere (exoatmospheric) and destroy them by means of high speed collision. The development of antiballistic-missile systems is critical to the defense of our nation.

  • Luna is partnered with JDSU, the leading provider of communications test and measurement solutions and optical products for telecommunications service providers, cable operators, and network equipment manufacturers, on the developmentof a handheld instrument for installation and maintenance testing of modern fiber optic networks.

  • Luna is working with the National Institutes of Health to develop a new a carbon nanomaterial-based diagnostic agent that could improve the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, a condition that causes most heart attacks.

  • Luna has formed a joint marketing alliance agreement with Terumo Cardiovascular Systems Corporation, the world's leading supplier of products for cardiopulmonary bypass, to market its Emboli Detection and Classification Systems (EDAC). This medical device non-invasively monitors the blood circuit for emboli (gaseous micro bubbles that can be dangerous) during invasive medical procedures such as cardiopulmonary bypass surgery.
